We Innovate
CHANGING THE WAY WE DO THINGS
Engaging our customers and communities in our collective pursuit of a more sustainable future is a significant step, but we understand that it is not the only solution. That is why we have made substantial investments to minimize our carbon footprint in every aspect of our operations, production, and processes within our plant.
WATER MANAGEMENT
MAKE CHANGE POSSIBLE: TRANSFORM THE WORLD BY STARTING WITH YOURSELF
Since February 2011, all water used in our production processes has undergone a sustainable journey. It is collected and transported under Emancipatie Boulevard Dominico F. ‘Don’ Martina to the Amstel Pumping Station across the road from our facility. From there, this water is directed, also underground, to the wastewater treatment plant at Hòfi Klein Kwartier. Here, it undergoes a filtration and treatment process, allowing it to be reused in the Punda district. For example, the gardens of Baoase Resort, Avila Beach Hotel and the trees in downtown Punda are watered with water that was once used in our facilities. This conscious strategy not only prevents wastewater from reaching the ocean but also nurtures the greenery in the area!
SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING
REDUCING PLASTIC USE AND INCREASING THE PERCENTAGE OF RECYCLED PLASTIC
After substantial investments in equipment and parts, CBBC uses far less plastic, and in some cases, exclusively recycled plastic. Here are some key facts and figures:
- 100% Recyclable packaging – All our packaging materials are 100% recyclable.
- Recycled materials in bottles – Since April 2021 all bottles used in our local production contain 50% recycled materials, marking a significant shift towards a circular economy. We are actively working to achieve 100% recycled content in the near future.
- Reducing plastic use – Our local brands have successfully reduced plastic use in their bottles by 10% since November 2018. Continuing our efforts, we have reduced plastic content in all 1L and 2L products, including Coca-Cola, Sprite, and Fria. We are continuously working to produce even lighter bottles without compromising our quality standards.
- Introduction of shorter caps – Since April 2021, we have introduced shorter caps for all our bottles, resulting in a shorter screw thread in the bottle and an additional 8% reduction in plastic use.
MORE FACTS AND FIGURES
- Cap production without lining – To simplify the recycling process, our caps are manufactured without liners.
- Recycled content milestone – In April 2021, CBBC achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first bottling company within the Latin Center Business Unit to switch to 50% recycled content in all our locally produced bottles.
- Reusable cases – We prioritize the use of reusable cases, and our 12oz cases are made entirely from 100% recycled materials. Our 6-pack holders are also made from 100% recycled material.
- Shift to pre-stretched film – To further reduce our carbon footprint, CBBC shifted from traditional shrink film to pre-stretched film, resulting in an impressive 300% reduction in the use of this materialThese pre-stretched films are used to wrap the beverages securely.
- Continuous research – CBBC is constantly looking for innovative materials to reduce the amount of virgin plastic used in our products and to increase the percentage of recycled content.
CBBC & GREEN PHENIX GO BEYOND
CBBC and Green Phenix are pushing the boundaries of conventional recycling and expanding our horizons through this collaboration.
Given that the construction industry accounts for a significant 38% of global carbon emissions, CBBC has invested in a mold for Green Phenix to produce high-density polyethylene (HDPE) building blocks. These blocks resemble oversized LEGO blocks and offer endless creative possibilities. They can be transformed into a wide range of functional and aesthetically pleasing items, including benches, office partitions, and speaker chairs.
We invite individuals and organizations to join us in this eco-friendly initiative. For more information and to explore the various options for incorporating these innovative building blocks into your office spaces or events, please feel free to contact Green Phenix. INTERACTIVE WASTE BIN
In collaboration with Plataforma Otrobanda, Curious2Dive and the Curaçao Clean Up Foundation, CBBC launched an innovative pilot project featuring recycling bins equipped with sensors. These bins were placed on a recently renovated square at Mundu Nobo. The bin provided a unique interactive experience; as people walked past the bin, they would hear a message saying ‘Ban resiklá’ (Let’s recycle), and when someone deposited a bottle, the bin would respond with ‘Mashá danki’ (Thank you). This remarkable recycling bin attracted a lot of attention and engagement from the community, emphasizing our commitment to promoting sustainable practices in a memorable and engaging way.
